MY EXPERIENCE AT ATLANTIC INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY
Initially, I was very skeptical to study with AIU because I have never had an out-of-classroom study experience before. I had never studied without depending fully on learning from the tutor’s ‘vast’ of knowledge. I did not know I could do it independently out of the eyes and reach of a lecturer. But it all happened! Atlantic International University is one of a kind as far as distance learning is concerned. My experience at AIU turned out to be very memorable, interesting, exciting and rewarding. I can buttress this opinion with the following points:
The benefits I later realized in being self-reliant in my studies cannot be quantifiable; it really helped me a lot. The time I depend on tutors for my study only helped me to read and pass my exams but now I study to understand. This really made me to see the world in different perspectives that has encouraged me to act and think strategically on any given topic or subject matter. It widened my reasoning and the horizon of my knowledge so that I could be able to bring what I read in books to real life issues. As a business administrative student and a future entrepreneur, it equipped me to face and tackle real life challenges and encouraged me to be thinking both creatively and critically.
AIU encourages students to have high level of flexibility in their study. As I study independently, it gave me the opportunity to choose the time and pace of my study, studying when, how and where it suited me. It could be in the office, it could be at home, it could be anywhere, anytime, anyhow! It was fun. Studying at my convenient was very valuable and perfect to me. This gave me all the time I needed in my career and other activities without disrupting them. Is it exciting earning your degree in the comforts of your home and yet have enough time for yourself, family, career and other social activities? This is what studying in a conventional part-time university in Nigeria could not have afforded me.
Prompt intervention by the admission counsellors, academic advisors and staff of student services department in tackling any issue of concern burdening a student is very encouraging. For all the staff of AIU that have made my academic dream comes true, time will not permit me to list your names, just know that I owe you all a lot.
In AIU we, the students are allowed to package our curriculum individually in order to fit in into our different academic goals and professional endeavours.
AIU in order to accomplish her objectives of providing great supports for learners to complete their study successfully without deficiencies adopted a very flexible tuition payment plan. This enables the students who could not pay their school fees upfront to be paying on monthly basis. This has really helped a lot of students that are having financial difficulties to accomplish their academic goal which has been the school’s priority. This has not been experienced elsewhere.
Inability to interact with my fellow students was the problem I encountered initially, but with Atlantic International University in virtually all the social media networks, it has really helped us to have global student-to-student interactive forum. Where we voice out our different challenges and others proffer solutions, which only students’ interactions can solve. This enables me to meet new people and make new friends while enjoying mutual support from one another.
The knowledge I acquired while studying at AIU will definitely help to improve and expand my expertise, equip me better in future as an entrepreneur and enable me to succeed in the business world. It is my earnest desire to complete my Master’s and Doctorate Degrees with Atlantic International University.
