Summary:

There are varying defini tions and terminologies for the words Education and Human Right. Human Rights Activist- Malcolm X refers to Educa tion as “…our passport to the future- for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today” while Theoreti cal Physicist- Albert Einstein refers to Education as “…not the learning of facts- but the training of the mind to think”. Meanwhile- a UNESCO web site article (November- 2020) entitled ‘What do you need to know about the right to educa tion’ affirms that the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights affirms that education is a fundamental human right for everyone and this right was further detailed in the Conven tion against Discrimination in Education.” (UNESCOs Website). The United Nations also refers to the word Education- in its definition as a Human Right “… A Human right includes; the right to work and education- and many more.” The essence of this essay is to delve into the various arguments and laws that support the notion of education as a human right as well as to cite some of the inequalities faced by human-beings in terms of their inability to access quality education despite decades of advocacy.
