School of Science and Engineering
This Bachelor program is for students to understand what happens when we design systems that are reliable, low cost and timely, and to come up with alternatives to electricity. These systems allow people in countries worldwide with a safe and scalable option to bring electricity to communities who are far away from the grid or for people who don’t have a reliable source of power. It also allows for high tech economies to have high quality power that is needed to continue to compete in their markets. The electricity networks are usually powered by solar, wind, hydro and biomass, though the most popular is solar power, which is the focus of the program. Some important aspects of the program include how to reduce the cost to create power electricity, how to store this power, what technology to use, and how to measure and use the smart meters. Another key concept is the financial cost and how that comes about. The program of Micro and Multimode Grid Design at AIU, is a distance learning program that will be tailor-made and designed exclusively for you, by you, and with your counselor. The flexibility to meet your needs is rarely found in any other distance learning program. Our program does not require that each student studies the same subjects and uses the same books and study materials as other students. Instead, our online Bachelor Programs are designed just for you. They are individually designed to meet your needs and help you achieve your professional and personal goals.
Important: You can find below an example of the topics or areas of study that you can develop and work on during your study program. This does not mean, in any way, that said example implies being a complete list that you are obliged to carry out at AIU, but that it is used by you as it is, an example or guide at your service. We remind you that AIU does not require its students to follow a standardized curriculum. Do you want to learn more about curriculum design at AIU? (Courses and Study Plans)

There are ample opportunities for jobs when you see the surge and the growth that we are investing in technologies when it comes to Micro and Multimode Grid Design. According to GM Insights, the market’s leaders include companies like Siemens, Eaton, GE Alstom, Schneider Electric, ABB, Homer Energy, Honeywell International, Hitachi, Lockheed Martin, Exelon, Toshiba, Advanced Microgrid Solutions, Viridity Energy Solutions, Caterpillar, and Tesla. Therefore, any position from installing PV systems and thermal systems to solar panels as well as solar cooling systems to working with battery and energy storage systems while also becoming managers, working with engineers and working with companies that are looking to expand these systems is a great possibility. There are also developers, operators, engineers and others that are needed in the field as well.
According to Navigant Research, the Microgrid market will reach be a $31 billion market by 2027. The market is a growing market, with opportunities for employment everywhere you look. Policy makers need reliable professionals who know the micro grid and multimode grid systems in order to create laws. Other businesses like hospitals, academic institutions, governments, hi-rise condos, industrial and commercial businesses need people who know about micro grids in order to have reliable and clean energy for their large energy needs. There are opportunities to develop, operate and work within the public and private sector in order to come up with this alternative forms of energy.
