School of Science and Engineering
The Bachelor in Optoelectronic Systems prepares students to design, research and develop light technologies or light information technology in devices. Those devices include different types of lasers, fibers, LEDs, information displays, image pick up devices, optical communication systems, optical storage, photo diodes, solar cells, as well as military devices, telecommunications, space telescopes and medical equipment. The field has tremendous growth due to the high demand of devices needed worldwide. The manufacturing, design, supervision of optical devices is growing. There is a continued search to come up with new solutions to improve devices and make technological advances in this field by changing the amplitude, phase and frequency of light with lower energy, and improve the speed, while reducing the cost of these devices. The program of Optoelectronic Systems at AIU, is a distance learning program that will be tailor-made and designed exclusively for you, by you, and with your counselor. The flexibility to meet your needs is rarely found in any other distance learning program. Our program does not require that each student studies the same subjects and uses the same books and study materials as other students. Instead, our online Bachelor Programs are designed just for you. They are individually designed to meet your needs and help you achieve your professional and personal goals.
Important: You can find below an example of the topics or areas of study that you can develop and work on during your study program. This does not mean, in any way, that said example implies being a complete list that you are obliged to carry out at AIU, but that it is used by you as it is, an example or guide at your service. We remind you that AIU does not require its students to follow a standardized curriculum. Do you want to learn more about curriculum design at AIU? (Courses and Study Plans)

The field of Optoelectronic Systems is very wide as it includes optoelectronic devices in lasers, fibers, LEDs, photodiodes and solar cells. A market that is expected to grow annually by 10% through the year 2024. This field can have a wide use in different markets like in medical research, manufacturing and fabrication technologies, the automotive industry in electric and autonomous cars, or in the entertainment market where LEDs are constantly improving their performance. There has been a rise in the need of consumer electronics in Asia and Latin America as well as a rise in grants from the US government in Research and Development of Optoelectronic Systems. This effect has created a demand in the field of Optoelectronic Systems with the main companies that specialize in optoelectronics are Samsung, Sony, Mitsubishi, Electric Toshiba and others.
